The bodies of five children have been discovered in a freezer in South Africa’s Northern Cape province.
Aged between three and seven, the children were found by their grandmother in an unused deep freezer in Kakamas town on Tuesday.
The police believe the children were accidentally trapped while playing and they suffocated inside.
“We do not suspect any foul play at this stage. It is believed the kids were playing when the deep freezer accidentally locked,” police spokeswoman Dimakatso Mooi told Reuters.
This is not the first incident of children being locked in places while playing. According to reports, earlier this week four children got trapped in an abandoned vehicle that started to heat up.
Two of the four children died while the other two are said to be in critical condition.
